How to transform energy devourer buildings of in energy efficient buildings

ReQuality can do it! It realized this transformation in Istituto Chiossone in Genoa, an onlus for care facilities.

The society made energy diagnosis of different buildings, such as “Nostra Signora del Monte”, for which it realized interventions on the structure and systems to create a 100% independent building on heating and domestic hot water, improving the comfort of patients.

According to an economic view, the investment returns in 15 years, but immediately the building obtains the interventions.

The first part of the intervention starts thanks to the help of Liguria Region: a photovoltaic system of 100 kW on the roof, a solar thermal system for hot water production and the insulation of the roof.

The institute David Chiossone in Genoa is an onlus born in 1868 to help people with a visual handicap by giving them assistence.

The structure donates hospitality, work and protection; it is formed by school, laboratories, a residence for adults.

Since 2013 ReQuality works for the institute to analyse the efficiency of the structure and to realize requalification projects.

ReQuality makes precise intervantions such as the replacement of heating systems, the study of new windows for buildings with an historical value, but most of all it starts a global intervention in the medium-long term.

Istituto Chiossone has two main structures which are analysed with energy diagnosis.

In particular, the work is made on Residenza del Monte, a structure for elderly people and also for patients with degenerative deseases.

It’s a building that derives from a recovery and an expansion of an historical structure of ’50s and it is formed by two elements with two different staircases.

In general, it’s a residence of 6 floors, which has a surface of 3.300 sqm and a volume of 11.700 mc.

In 2014 energy diagnosis showed a good potential about energy improvement, replacing the windows and thanks to the insulation of facades, balconies and roof. The latter can accomodate a photovoltaic system.

The project gave a total reduction of external consumption for heating and hot water.

To complete the recovery of the building, the project included thermostatic valves on the radiators and a controlled mechanical ventilation system, improving comfort and the quality of the air.

An incredible result is about enviroment: a reduction of 4.000 tons of CO2 emitted for year.
